Amelia Massage Associates was founded in 1994 by Michael and Nancy Shores. Over the years they have gradually perfected and expanded the massage services with spa services and wellness treatments and today Amelia Massage Associates is the premier massage salon in Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island. In early 2019, after 25 years of service to the community, Michael and Nancy started looking for a successor for the business and soon after met Kathi Neidig, who literally checked all the boxes for a perfect passing of the baton. Kathi purchased the business in August of that year, and is now mixing her highly skilled talents with Michael and Nancy’s long time reputation for excellence and a new and exciting future is looking at us under the name Amelia Massage and Bodywork Associates, LLC.
Hailing from a small college town in the middle of cow country, Pennsylvania, Kathi Neidig was always encouraged to be unique.
In her own words: “To promote that uniqueness from birth, my parents named me Mary Kathleen, but always called me Kathi. Spelled with an “i”, just to be different.”
I was raised in a loving home where openness and integrity were common. We went to church on Sunday and my father meditated daily. My mother was organized and involved in the community. Together they helped many people. They raised my sister and me to be kind and giving people; never one to judge, always lending a hand.
I should have known in college that I was meant to be a Massage Therapist.
I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and I am blessed to have been the (neglected) child born between an older sister and a younger brother in a “Leave It To Beaver” kind of household. And being the middle child, of course I never got to watch my favorite TV shows. But mother’s “designer homemade cakes” helped dispel my theory of neglect, along with daddy’s love of collecting unusual or antique “stuff” that he and I enjoyed together in the basement on a routine basis. Our man-cave time together still brings pleasant memories of a man taken from us much too soon, at just 50 years of age.
I consider myself a true southerner. Just ask me what part of Atlanta I’m from; I mean the real Atlanta. I was born between Peachtree and West Peachtree Streets, at Crawford W. Long Hospital, just 3 blocks away from where the now famous Varsity hotdog stand began. When I visit my birthplace once or twice a year, I make a point to drop in at the original downtown Varsity for a hotdog and an orange frosty. The sound of the order-takers continually asking, “What’ll ya’ have? What’ll ya’ have? invites special memories of good times with family and friends.
Born in Petersburg, Virginia and adopted at birth by John and Mildred Clay, a construction worker and a nurse who could not conceive children of “their own,” I feel blessed as I reflect on my heritage and heart-warming childhood memories. Strongly influenced from my birth to her death in 1971, my grandmother and namesake, Nancy, remains vivid in my heart, mind, and soul. Early childhood memories include “Granny” referring to me and my biological sister, Claire, as “chosen girls.” And she often told me that I was a “giver.” I think this was the beginning of my desire to make those around me feel special, no matter what.
Originally from Philadelphia, I have enjoyed living in our little piece of paradise, Amelia Island, for 37 years. I have felt like a natural born healer my entire life which makes sense of my steady progression in serving family, friends, our community, and visitors to the island. With a background that includes Physical Education, Health, Recreation, and the Hospitality industries, enrolling in Massage Therapy School at Florida State College of Jacksonville was an easy and natural decision. It was a very positive experience and I am thankful for the critical knowledge and experience that I gained.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida and raised in South Carolina, I am a southern girl through and through. I answer to “yʼall have any appointment openings today?” with “yessir” and “yesʼm” and enjoy meeting our new clients who come from all walks of life and from all over the country. Amelia Island draws very interesting people to us which makes my ‘workʼ even more fun and interesting. I guess you could say I never met a stranger.
Going back to my choice to put my heart, my hands and my spirit to work professionally, I really had no idea how much I would love massage therapy until
