Nancy Shores

Born in Petersburg, Virginia and adopted at birth by John and Mildred Clay, a construction worker and a nurse who could not conceive children of “their own,” I feel blessed as I reflect on my heritage and heart-warming childhood memories. Strongly influenced from my birth to her death in 1971, my grandmother and namesake, Nancy, remains vivid in my heart, mind, and soul. Early childhood memories include “Granny” referring to me and my biological sister, Claire, as “chosen girls.” And she often told me that I was a “giver.” I think this was the beginning of my desire to make those around me feel special, no matter what.

After marriage to Michael and the subsequent births of our 3 happy, healthy sons, my desire to work directly with others in a healing environment led me to careers in medical laboratory technology and medical laboratory sales and services. In 1999 I graduated from massage therapy school in Jacksonville, Florida and earned massage therapist licenses in Florida (LMT) and Georgia and attained national certification (NCBTMB).

On one hand (pun intended), it seems like just yesterday that I became a massage therapist, yet on the other hand, I feel like I’ve been a therapist forever. I have learned that all the other hats I’ve worn along the way were in preparation for my work with folks from all over the world and from all walks of life.

And what better place to call home? To live and work in the peaceful barrier island paradise called Amelia Island, a north east coastal Florida setting – an escape to rest, relaxation and rejuvenation.

As a long-term sand-in-my-toes Floridian, wife, mother, grandmother, water sports enthusiast, music lover, black lab lover, and co-founder of Amelia Massage Associates, I welcome any opportunity to give back through healing touch, a rewarding purpose and my lifetime mission.
